Equine Ailments - A to Z
Acne - an inflammation of the hair follicules or skin eruption normally associated with bacterial infection. Small lumps form under the skin and form pimples, which may exude pus when the tops break. The lumps are usually under the saddle or where the skin is rubbed; also found on thee face and withers. Treatment – avoid irritation of the affected area and rest the animal. The vet may suggest washing the affected area with a solution of washing soda to soften the skin and applying a dressing of sulphur ointment BP. Deep seated conditions may need antibiotics. |
