Equine Ailments - A to Z
Lampas - A swelling in the mouth of the hard palate just behind the superior incisor arcade, and may rise level with the teeth and even beyond. The swelling may be reddened and tender and cause feeding problems. Usually seen in young animals when they are shedding teeth or in the older animal from wear and tear or tooth problems.
Treatment – In most cases the swelling will soon subside without medical treatment. Rest the animal for a few days and feed soft easily chewed food to encourage the horse to eat, mashes, grated carrots etc. Examine the teeth and call a good equine dentist to correct any irregularities or sharp edges. |
