Equine Ailments - A to Z

Stringhalt Springhalt - classified as a nervous disease. Like shivering the symptoms can be intermittent. Horses affected by stringhalt have an odd involuntary exaggerated hock action, jerked upwards on progression, though not always with every step. Both hocks may be affected, though it does not normally interfere with the usefulness of the horse it is an unsoundness, and on very rare occasions, if it is acute, it impedes galloping and jumping. Treatment -Muscle relaxants can be an effective treatment; surgery is sometimes used.
