Australian Breeds of Horse

See users pictures

Originating on the ranges in Australia when in the mid nineteenth century gold rush, domestic horses were turned loose and became wild. These wild horses were referred to as the Brumbies and as a breed it is of little or no use as it is too wild, though occasionally some have proved otherwise. The number of horses increased over the years and as they interbred with each other the quality of horses they became a pest. Consequently organised culling was practiced to bring the numbers under control and now there are very few left. It stands up to 15h.h. and varies considerably in type and colour. In Australia a racehorse that behaves in a wild fashion is also referred to as a Brumby.
