Auxois

The Auxois is a more recent version of the draught horses that originated in
the Middle Ages in north-east Burgundy. Ardennais, Boulonnais and Percheron
blood have been added to produce this heavier type draught horse. The breed,
like it's near relatives, has the hardiness, strength, stamina and amiable
temperament making it an excellent workhorse. It stands at between 15.2h.h.
and 16.h.h. and in appearance closely resembles the Ardennais and Trait du
Nord, though selective breeding has produced the predominance of bay or red
roan horses.
