Dole Trotter or Dole Gudbrandsdal

Originating in the Gudbrandsdal valley of Northern Norway the two types have interbred to become one breed. It stands at about 15h.h. or slightly more but retains the pony appearance of the Dole Gudbrandsdal Pony. Dole mares were crossed with trotters to develop the active paces of the breed. Some claim that the Fell and Dales ponies were developed from the early ancestors of the Dole.

After World War II the breed went into decline, but the state studs helped to revive it in 1962. Today's Dole trotter is sound with active paces, a willing little horse that makes a good all rounder, under saddle or in harness.
