Homoeopathy
Homoeopathy as an Alternative Therapy
|
|
|
Horses respond well to natural homeopathic remedies and they can play a
vital role in maintaining the health of your horse. Homoeopathy is a system
of medicine that has been used effectively with people and animals for
hundreds of years. Natural remedies are used to gently restore the patient
to their highest level of mental and physical health. Homoeopathy can
address acute problems, like trauma and allergic reactions. However, it is
widely used to treat long-term chronic degenerative diseases like allergies,
arthritis, kidney disease, diabetes, cystitis, and many behaviour problems
as well.
"According to the World Health Organization, "Health is more than the
absence of disease. Health is a state of optimal well-being." Optimal
well-being is a concept of health that goes beyond the curing of illness to
one of achieving wellness. Many of us have been brought up to believe that
our health depends solely on the quality of the healthcare we receive. The
truth is, your health is your responsibility. You are the only person who
can make the lifestyle decisions that contribute to your well-being. You are
the one who must take the steps to preserve your health and promote your
wellness. Only you have the power to create wellness for yourself. Your
power lies in the choices you make every day on your own behalf. Your
behaviour and the choices you make in your life affect your health. You can
choose to do more of what's good for you and the world around you, and to do
less of what is harmful. You can choose to learn more about your health and
the variety of healthcare options available. All of us have incredible inner
wisdom. As you gather information and experience, you will gain confidence
in using your inner knowing to follow your path to wellness." The American
Holistic Health Association.
By the use of alternative therapies such as homoeopathy on the horse that is
suffering from disease or has been injured or is suffering from shock, we
are endeavouring to regain optimal well being into the life of the animal.
There are specialist Homeopathic horse vets, (some listed below) should you
seek to take this alternative course with your horse and further information
on how to treat your horse with homoeopathy in the book sections.

Arnica
Arnica is useful as a remedy for the shock that accompanies an injury or
trauma. One of the primary uses of Arnica is for muscle soreness and
bruising caused by trauma or injury, but it may also be useful as an
approach to overstrain.
Arnica helps to prevent the development of bruising and haemorrhage, it
promotes healing and can help to prevent septic infections occurring after
an injury. Arnica is helpful to a horse when it feels pain, or is
predisposed to lameness or resists approach due to anticipation of pain.
Head injuries can often cause persistent symptoms long after the original
injury appears to be healed. Arnica is a remedy worth considering for the
type of symptoms that develop after an injury and may also help to calm the
horse that fears being touched as a result of an injury.
Our soil, plants, and especially commercial foods are woefully deficient in
key nutrients. Scientists theorise that mineral deficiency subjects us, and
our animals, to more diseases, aging, sickness and destruction of our
physical well-being than any other factor in personal health. Preventing &
Healing Animal Cancer, arthritis, and other disease; improving temperament
and behavioural problems, digestive disorders, skin disorders, bone & joint
disorders and more with naturally occurring nutritional supplements.

Homoeopathy Article
"Homoeopathy is based on the law of similars which is thousands of years
old, a remedy is selected which, when taken in its raw state without
homoeopathic preparation, would cause the same symptoms as the illness
presented. It is diluted homoeopathically and given in minute quantity ,
that same substance stimulates the immune system to fight the illness or
disease.
Hence ' like may be cured by like.'
The extreme dilution makes homoeopathy very safe and free from harmful
side-effects.
Homoeopathy should not be confused with herbal as it comes not only from
plants, but animal and mineral sources also giving it a huge range of
applications. It is a well researched health science which has been used for
thousands of years and is practised world wide.
Our pets are as susceptible as we are to stress, poor nutrition and lack of
exercise. As with us, an animal's mental and emotional health is also
reflected in its physical well-being . Homoeopathy takes all of these
factors into account and reflects the 'personality' as well as the physical
symptoms of the animal. Homoeopathy should be combined with a healthy
lifestyle to achieve good health and old age.
Homoeopathy is a well-recognised and highly regarded system of natural
medicine. It is very successful for the treatment of animals, with numerous
additional benefits for the owner and for the progressive retailer.
Despite their size and strength, horses can be surprisingly susceptible to
injuries and ailments. This is one of the factors that can make horse
ownership such an expensive and sometimes fraught activity. Many horse
owners now rely on homoeopathic remedies, assured that the right remedy will
speed their animal's recovery without risk of the side effects associated
with some conventional drugs."

Richard J. Holliday, DVM - "My work animals were most carefully selected and
everything was done to provide them with suitable housing and with fresh
green fodder, silage, and grain, all produced from fertile land. I was
naturally intensely interested in watching the reaction of these well-chosen
and well-fed oxen to diseases like rinderpest, septicaemia, and
foot-and-mouth disease which frequently devastated the countryside. None of
my animals were segregated; none were inoculated; they frequently came in
contact with diseased stock. As my small farm-yard as Pusa was only
separated by a low hedge from one of the large cattle-sheds on the Pusa
estate, in which outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease often occurred, I have
several time seen my oxen rubbing noses with foot-and-mouth cases. Nothing
happened. The healthy well-fed animals reacted to this disease exactly as
suitable varieties of crops, when properly grown, did to insect and fungus
pest -- no infection took place." Good nutrition can prevent disease. Good
nutrition can cure disease. From Nutrition and Holistic Animal Health.

George MacLeod's The Treatment of Horses by Homoeopathy is a work that
should be in the hands of everyone interested in the welfare of horses. It
offers a speedy and effective method of treatment which can often deal with
so-called 'incurable' ailments by the use of medicines that are absolutely
safe, easy to administer and have no side effects. This book is the
culmination of many years' experience of a very well respected veterinary
surgeon who proved that the methods used are superior to all others.
The new edition of George MacLeod's classic book on the homeopathic
treatment of horses has been comprehensively updated by Nick Thompson, a
leading homoeopathic vet. It offers accessible advice on treating a wide
range of equine diseases and disorders, including many relatively modern
conditions such as post-viral fatigue, COPD and sweet itch. It also includes
extended guidance on creating an effective homoeopathic first aid kit and
many other helpful resources.
